Seeking News Reporter

Oklahoma
Job Status:  Full-time
Ad Expires:

Job ID: 1483740

Description:

2012 Sequoyah Award winner, The Daily Elk Citian, a forward-leaning newspaper with a strong editorial voice covering Elk City and surrounding communities, is seeking a news writer/reporter to join our staff.

The Daily Elk Citian serves western Oklahoma with an excellent print publication, plus a wide array of digital platforms.  The successful candidate will be competent in both traditional and digital news publishing formats and will have an aptitude for learning and utilizing new technology as it emerges.

Good self-editing skills and a strong writing voice are a requirement for this position.  Basic photography skills are also required.  Layout and inDesign skills are also integral to this position.

The duties of this full-time position will include the writing of hard news, community and school news, features and enterprise stories.  The news reporter will be responsible for coverage of government meetings, crime stories and other news stories of interest to our readers.

This is not a position for those who believe their journalistic duties begin and end with writing stories.  A package approach to major stories is encouraged and often required, with the end product moving across all available publishing platforms in order to reach as wide an audience as possible.  We routinely win awards for news writing and news content thanks to a team of strong writers and a commitment to real, local journalism.
