Description:

The Durango Herald, a family-owned daily newspaper in spectacular Southwest Colorado, seeks an experienced wire/copy editor and page designer to join its multimedia news desk.

This single combined position includes duties of selecting national and world stories and budgeting those pages, editing staff and wire copy, writing headlines, designing feature and news pages proofreading and posting stories to our website. We want someone who can write headlines that grab readers, design pages that advance stories, and edit copy for accuracy, clarity, completeness and organization. Solid news judgment required as this position will monitor wire services for news from around the globe to determine what content will go on national and international pages. Must have at least three years experience performing these duties in a print newspaper environment. Experience in a digital news environment is an asset.

Command of AP style is essential. Hours include nights and weekends. Experience with InCopy and InDesign is required. Experience with Photoshop and Illustrator is a plus.
