Position:

Job Status:  Full-time
Ad Expires:

Description:

The Martha's Vineyard Times has an immediate opening for a general assignment reporter. The Times is a 15,000-plus circulation, independent, award winning weekly newspaper with a large, vibrant website (mvtimes.com). The paper serves a unique island environment about 45 minutes by ferry from Woods Hole on the Massachusetts mainland. The focus is on issues that are important to the year-round and seasonal residents. Carpenters, CEOs, retirees, and political leaders share the spotlight and the news coverage.
In any given week the successful candidate may report on a weekly selectmen’s meeting in one of six towns, a dog that ate a neighbor's chickens, rising property taxes, education and school budgets, issues associated with a large immigrant population, as well as development and growth issues. The Times offers a full benefits package, and a pleasant working atmosphere. We are seeking an individual with practical reporting experience. This is a great opportunity for a recent graduate with a strong resume, or a veteran reporter ready for a new lifestyle.
Martha's Vineyard is a great place to work, but housing is expensive and the cost of living is high. Applicants applying from a distant location should explain why it is practical to think they would be willing to move to the Island. Please email nelson@mvtimes.com.
