The Associated Press seeks a Newsperson/Entertainment Video Journalist based in its Nashville, TN bureau.

The Video Journalist will be responsible for covering the country music industry, and will also contribute to the department in other areas of news. The successful candidate must be well-versed in all music genres and familiar with a broad range of entertainment areas, including TV and film.


Candidates must have strong sources and relationships within the entertainment industry, specifically within country music. The Video Journalist will shoot, produce and edit his/her own material using Panasonic P2 gear and a Macbook. Excellent non-linear video-editing and news-writing skills are required. Final Cut Pro experience is a plus. Candidates must be able to write broadcast scripts as well as contribute to the text entertainment report. Candidates must also have strong general news skills and be able to contribute to breaking news outside of entertainment, including assisting the Nashville bureau in emergencies.

Candidates should have three to five years of experience covering entertainment. On-air hosting skills are a plus, as is knowledge of AP Style. The position requires a self-starter who works well remotely and solves problems independently. Must have strong communication skills and keep editors informed and updated, including working in concert with an AP music writer, also based in the Nashville bureau.

Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English language is required. Authorization to work in the United States is mandatory.
