Job ID: 1478446

Covering the Virginia Beach public safety beat requires a reporter be adept at breaking news, spotting trends, developing sources and recognizing what’s newsy and unusual. A reporter is expected to use multimedia tools on the street and in the newsroom, including camera phones and databases, and to circle back on a breaking story with a front-page follow giving readers the context. Virginia Beach has roughly 450,000 residents, several military installations and an influx of summer tourists, so a lot happens here. This reporter will write breaking news, features and explanatory and investigative stories about public safety in the Beach, as well as occasional general assignment stories.
