Looking to make your mark? This is a great opportunity to build a content experience from the ground up. LifeLock, an industry leader in identity theft protection, is expanding its editorial presence and needs a web-savvy managing editor to establish a top-notch consumer destination that delivers everything from timely information to in-depth articles.  Identity theft is the No. 1 consumer complaint in the U.S., so the potential audience is huge. You’ll handle a range of activities, from creating content for an existing site to helping develop a next gen product and editorial strategy for web, mobile and tablet. 

Duties include:

  • Defining and executing an editorial strategy that establishes LifeLock as a trusted authority on identity theft
  • Building and supervising a small team
  • Creating original content
  • Evaluating potential partners
  • Monitoring and mining metrics for editorial insights and improvements
  • Planning and managing an editorial budget
  • Incorporating SEO and leveraging social media to showcase your work

This role requires someone who can report and write, as well as assign and edit, a range of content - newsy updates, feature and trend stories, service articles, case studies, white papers and thought- leadership pieces. You’ll have strong research skills, experience interviewing top experts and sourcing unique content, and a track record of creating material that is accurate and accessible to a broad audience. As an editor, you’ll be an experienced manager who knows how to bring out the best work in others, both staff and free-lance.

Internally, you’ll coordinate with Marketing to support LifeLock’s goal of “relentlessly protecting your identity”. You’ll work closely with the Product team on UI, platform, CMS and feature development. And you’ll evangelize the role of editorial to the company at large.

Knowledge of identity theft, security or consumer protection fields is ideal but not required, as long as you have a demonstrated ability to learn quickly and deliver smart, high-quality content.

Responsibilities

  • In charge of all editorial on LifeLock.com, maintaining highest editorial standards and assuring quality content wherever it appears (web, mobile, tablet or social) and in whatever format (text, photos, video, multi-media, tweets, posts).
  • Define, develop and reinforce an editorial voice in support of LifeLock’s mission: “Relentlessly protecting your identity”.
  • Hire and supervise a small editorial team (3+ people) and external contractors as needed to create original content across multiple platforms – web, mobile, tablet and social (Facebook, Twitter, etc.).
  • Develop and execute publishing plan, create and maintain editorial budget, lead editorial meetings, assign and directly supervise content creators. You will have final responsibility for all published products.
  • Immediately join Product team working on next gen site, app and CMS, defining requirements and developing features that will reinforce LifeLock’s leadership position.
  • Ensure a good user experience by making sure pages are well organized, intuitive and provide a smooth path through the network.
  • Work with internal and external teams to drive traffic to LifeLock.com editorial content via social media and SEO.
  • Partner with Marketing team to support overall company initiatives.
  • Participate in ongoing product development efforts, particularly editorial features and interactives.
  • Leverage in-house experts for data, trends, story ideas.
  • Review, recommend and help negotiate with potential editorial content providers.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in online media, ideally at a consumer or news site.
  • Proven record of editorial excellence and leadership, with strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Experience launching and maintaining original editorial material for a website, with demonstrated ability to grow readership.
  • Familiar with CMS, proven ability to implement new tools and techniques.
  • Product development experience – web and tablet/mobile.
  • Management experience, particularly leading small, distributed editorial teams.
  • Headline, copy editing, photo editing and assignment skills.
  • Comfortable with a range of content: Text, photos, videos, graphics, multi-media and interactives.
  • Hands-on ability with basic web publishing tools: HTML, Word Press, Photoshop, etc.
  • Solid understanding of SEO and SEM for editorial content.
  • Fluent in social media - Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, etc.
  • Background in parsing metrics for editorial insights and improvements.
  • B.A. in journalism or related field.
