The Galveston County Daily News (circulation 25,000) seeks a sharp, motivated entry-level reporter. We cover a growing county of 270,000 people on the Texas Gulf Coast less than an hour’s drive from Houston.

The person hired for this job will work mostly for news but also for sports during busy times such as high-school football season. This is not primarily a sports-writing job. The job entails covering a variety of subjects and will require weekend and holiday work.

Recent college graduates with newswriting experience through internships or for college newspapers will be considered.

If you're excited about journalism and eager to learn, this might be the job for you.

Send a resume and no more than five well-chosen clips to Associate Editor Michael A. Smith: or P.O. 628 Galveston TX 77553. If you apply by email, put the word “resume” in the subject line. Applications submitted without the word “resume” in the subject line might not be reviewed. By “clips” we mean examples of newspaper writing — no term papers, no personal essays and no experimental fiction.
