Description:

The Daily Progress in beautiful Charlottesville, Va., seeks a copy editor who thrives under deadline pressure; is a stickler for details, especially for accuracy and legality; snaps out clever headlines that capture the stories and hook readers; and delivers sharp, clean pages quickly and efficiently. Proficiency in pagination software required. Experience in Adobe CreativeSuite, specifically including InDesign and Photoshop, preferred. Will consider paginators with strong clips from Quark. Skills in either InDesign or Quark required. This is not a job for those who simply want to edit copy. It is a job for people who can skillfully produce eye-catching pages with strong, accurate heads that grab readers' attention. We want people who get it right and get it on time. Charlottesville is nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains and home to the University of Virginia with attractions ranging from Monticello, home of Thomas Jefferson, to a rich night life, featuring such attractions as the locally based Dave Matthews Band. If you're a serious journalist ready to push yourself and us toward greatness, we want to hear from you. Send a cover letter, resume and pdf's of your three best pages to Managing Editor Lee Wolverton at lwolverton@dailyprogress.com or The Daily Progress, 685 West Rio Road, Charlottesville, VA 22901. Subject lines in emails should read, "Copy Editor."
