GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION:   

CRP's outreach [and social media] coordinator has the primary responsibility of overseeing community and advocacy outreach efforts, as well as conceiving and implementing the organization's social media strategy. He or she will be responsible for coordinating CRP's citizen engagement, which includes a new project with a dual focus on educational outreach and opportunities for mission-oriented advocacy. As the lead team member responsible for CRP's expansive social networking operations, he or she is responsible for producing content for Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and other networks, as well as collecting social and site-wide analytics, and making recommendations for improvement.

This person will also provide general support for the communications team, which will include taking reporter inquiries and sometimes reporting/blogging for OpenSecrets Blog.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Assist with design and implementation of new, grant-funded features of site to promote citizen engagement and advocacy on government (esp. campaign finance) transparency. Collect educational resources and do related outreach.

·         Create and manage online "Action Center," including calls to action. Coordinate with staff in developing relationships with key constituencies. Investigate online advertising.

·         Help develop and execute social media strategy. Expand online presence and audience by creating content for and managing the Center's Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr pages, with heavy emphasis on interactivity, prompt responses to comments and posts, generating unique content and making frequent posts that attract new users while keeping existing ones engaged with our work.

·         Keep abreast of new online trends and opportunities for CRP to expand its social presence. Act as lead for teaching staff best practices online.

·         Regularly track and deliver site-wide and social analytics for staff and board. Make recommendations on site improvements and adjust social strategy to ensure consistent growth of network.

·         Serve as the primary liaison between the public and the Center.

·         Represent CRP at conferences and speak to advocacy organizations and community groups about CRP's political engagement tools and advocacy platform. Develop virtual community events and implement them.

·         Assist with the development of promotional materials, including print, online and mobile educational resources and advocacy tools.

·         Organize and manage the Center's nascent YouTube page and spearhead the creation of an OpenSecrets.org video tour and issue primers that highlight CRP's work.  Collect and post videos from various media outlets that feature OpenSecrets.org work or staff.

·         Improve the readability of the OpenSecrets.org site for the common visitor.

·         Work to widely promote high-profile articles, reports, etc. produced by the Center.

·         Make daily updates to the Center's "In the News" page.

·         Assist communications team with other tasks as needed, including:

o   Contribute articles to the OpenSecrets Blog.

o   Supplement blog features, such as Mailbag and Capital Eye Opener, including use of video.

o   Answer press calls.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

·         BA/BS degree in communications or related field

·         Two years experience in communications, social media, event promotion/development, citizen outreach/engagement work, with a solid understanding of social media

·         Strong communications skills, especially for external audiences, including writing and public speaking ability.

·         Exemplary organizational acumen with well developed multi-tasking skills

·         Proficient use of Microsoft Word, Access, Excel and Movable Type

·         An entrepreneurial spirit and creative approach to strategy development.

·         A commitment to community service.
