We're looking for a news-oriented and digitally savvy reporter to cover K-12 education on our news team in the competitive market of Greensboro in north-central North Carolina.

Our K-12 reporter, in a beat we call Learning/Children, will have a twin focus on school effectiveness and taxpayer interests, with a secondary focus on education trends. This reporter also follows, to a lesser degree, charter and private schools.

This reporter must understand numbers, both budgets and school performance metrics, and translate educational jargon into plain language. He or she also must be comfortable writing analysis -- abandoning, at times, the conventional story form to tell readers what the facts mean.

Most important, this reporter must be comfortable working simultaneously for both print and digital publications and engaging with daily readers through social media. Our K-12 reporter blogs, writes daily for online and regularly develops longer enterprise packages with multiple layers for both print and online.

The News & Record is owned by BH Media, a Berkshire Hathaway company. We’ve got great weather, if you’re willing to wink at the occasional thunder and ice storm, in a metro area that has universities and is friendly to outdoor pursuits. And we’re less than a half day’s drive from both beach and mountains.
