Description:

Multi-talented designer/headline writer needed who can design high-profile pages for two newspapers. The Cape Cod Times and The Standard-Times in New Bedford are seeking a creative and skilled news designer who can do our most important news pages. Features page design is not out of the question if your talents match our needs. Copy editing is required, but design ability is by far most important.

Can you design an all-refer broadsheet A1 with a hard-news urgency – using a creative palette of options? We are seeking a skilled page designer who can craft excellent headlines, ones that don’t get you into trouble the next day but grab reader attention. We need journalism know-how and advanced design skills. You will be primarily based out of the Hyannis newsroom. The New Bedford paper has changed to an all-refer front page. In the year since the look debuted, those front pages have made the Top Ten in Newseum numerous times. Front pages for New Bedford would be designed in that location, although most pages for New Bedford are designed in Hyannis.

For the Cape Cod Times, we need an engaging front-page designer using a more traditional approach, with creative headline layering and display heads encouraged. You would be designing a variety of pages at the Cape Cod Times for news, business and sports. Some of these shifts will likely be A1 shifts. We are trying to deepen our A1 bench for both papers.

InDesign skills are sought - although a very talented Quark designer will not be shut out. Photoshop and Illustrator skills are very helpful.

Interested applicants should submit a resume and cover letter by March 11, and three to five design clips, to Dhyana Sansoucie, Assistant Managing Editor of Presentation and Production, Cape Cod Times, 319 Main Street, Hyannis, MA 02601. Electronic submissions and portfolio links are encouraged to dsansoucie@capecodonline.com. This is a full-time position with benefits with evening work at both locations.

Cape Cod Media Group is an Equal Opportunity Employer and values the benefits of diversity in our workplace.
