Description:

We need a fast, versatile, resourceful and curious general-assignment reporter for our breaking news/crime team.

This reporter works 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. in a key newsroom position. We're looking for someone who can write quickly and clearly on any topic. She/he serves as a bridge between the day and night crime reporters, backs up beat reporters throughout the newsroom and tackles breaking news.

The job is great training ground for an entry-level reporter. Our successful swing GA reporters typically move on to a more topical enterprise beat.

At least two to three years at a daily paper are preferred, although recent graduates with strong clips and internships will be considered. Basic social media skills and the ability to file quickly for the web are required. Experience covering crime/courts is a plus.

Send cover letter, resume, and clips to Managing Editor Melissa Matczak at Melissa.matczak@owh.com. Put "GA swing" in the subject line. Deadline is March 15.

Why you should work for us: The Omaha World-Herald (165,000 Sunday circulation) is the flagship paper of BH Media Group’s growing national newspaper chain. Omaha offers something for everyone. The Daily Beast named Omaha the No. 2 City for Recent Grads. We're home to a vibrant, aggressive network of young professionals and known nationally for our indie music scene. Have children? Kiplinger picked Omaha as No. 1 on its list of the Top 10 Great Cities to Raise Your Kids.
