Music Connects is a music media company that provides news to over 12 million music and entertainment fans in the U.S. and worldwide monthly.  We are looking for enthusiastic, diligent and responsible professionals to join the team.  We have a pop culture website at mstarsnews.com, a classical music website at classicalite.com, and a new Christian music portal website at Hallels.com.

The following positions are available for each website:

Editor-in-Chief

Copy Editor

Reporters / Writers (classical music news, pop culture, entertainment news, breaking news)

The websites are all traffic driven and require people are who able to cover both music-related and general breaking news.

Freelancers are also welcomed to apply to work night shifts / weekend shifts.

Editor

He/She is expected to polish the media website’s profile/voice, develop music oriented-related content and most importantly help increase its viewership. This position requires an innovative, organized, resourceful and goal-oriented leader who has a strong vision, a proven track record in management and an obsession with online trends.

• Several Years of Experience in Editing For an established website Required (not including school papers, blogs, personal websites)
• Have experience in hiring, training, and managing a large team of reporters
• Degree in Journalism, Communications or related field required.
• Proven record for web producing and online editorial community-building (Web Savvy)
• High energy, entrepreneurial spirit and team-building approach.
• Up-to-date knowledge of Internet publishing, metrics and usage patterns, including a strong grasp of social media and SEO
• Committed to quality; organized, accurate and detail-oriented. 

Copy Editor

The copy editor is expected to:

• check text to ensure it is well written and logically structured, ready for publication
• correct grammar and spelling
• ensure the text is in line with the publisher's 'house style'
• check facts and raise queries with the author
• being alert to any potential legal problems in the text, such as libellous statements or breach of copyright, and discussing them with the publisher
• check for plagiarism
• check illustrations/photos and captions are correct, check copyright issues for photo usage
• edit minimum 30 articles per day and write articles

Copy editors must have:

• excellent written English, including good spelling and grammar
• a meticulous approach to their work and an eye for detail
• the ability to maintain high-quality work while meeting tight deadlines
• a love of and feel for language
• good concentration, to focus on texts that may be lengthy or dull
• judgement in applying "house style"
• a tactful approach when dealing with authors
• the ability to retain the author's 'voice' after editing.

Reporters / Writers

Writers/reporters will work at the office located in downtown New York unless they are freelance writers.  A positive attitude and good energy is a must-have for the company.  Writers must be capable of catching the latest breaking news and write at least numerous articles throughout the day, meeting daily deadlines and goals.  Candidates must be timely when delivering news stories, write compelling articles, drive traffic, and have great organizational skills.  Reporters who exceed traffic goals are entitled to incentives!

• Experience with Journalism, Communications or related field required.
• Experience writing for online multimedia (Web Savvy)
• Strong grasp of social media and is proficient with Facebook and Twitter
• Must be able to work under pressure when necessary
• Well-versed in the Associated Press writing style
• Has a strong grasp of SEO
• Has experience writing secondary stories using reliable sources while maintaining unique voice
• Can turn around a story in less than 40 minutes
