The person in this position is second in line in the newsroom and reports directly to the editor. This person oversees daily content creation and production for print, online and social media sites. Primary areas of responsibility are content editing, web administration, scheduling daily and long-range, in-depth stories and backing up the copy editing team when necessary.

Three to five years of newsroom experience is a must, as is management experience. Knowledge of the Adobe Suite software, especially InDesign and Photoshop, or comparable software is vitally important.

The position requires a strong manager; someone who can communicate clearly and act as a mentor to young reporters to make their copy shine.
