The Perham Focus is seeking an education and general assignment reporter to join our small, dedicated team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of community journalism, talent for writing, nose for news and good work ethic. We’re looking for someone who can easily write a hard news story one day, and a feature story the next. Photography and computer skills are also highly desirable.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

·         Writing articles as assigned for the weekly newspaper and website, as well as special sections. Also, developing your own unique story ideas.

·         Building a rapport with news sources and community members to develop stories.

·         Taking photographs to accompany stories, and to capture various community events.

·         Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

·         Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field; or at least three years of reporting or other applicable writing experience.

·         Excellent communication skills.

·         Detail oriented.

·         Able to work both independently and as part of a team.

·         Must have a valid driver's license with a driving record that is insurable by the company.

·         Willing to work some evenings and weekends.

·         Must live in the Perham area.
