Description:

The Sierra Club, the nation's largest and most effective grassroots environmental organization, seeks a Chicago-based communications strategist for our ground-breaking, history-making Beyond Coal campaign.

This key Associate Press Secretary position helps guide regional media strategy across the Midwest for the Sierra Club's Beyond Coal campaign. It’s an ambitious effort which received a $50 million donation from Bloomberg Philanthropies, and aims to retire a third of the nation's coal-burning power plants and replace them with wind, solar, and other clean energy alternatives over the next decade.

The ideal candidate is entrepreneurial, resourceful, creative, has a good understanding of grassroots organizing, and is eager to join a fast-paced team of communications professionals. In addition to shaping messaging, strategy and tactics, this person will maintain key media relationships, pitch and promote stories for the campaign, create paid-media plans, and provide on-the-record comments for news outlets. Candidates should have 3+ years of media and communications experience, and a passion for environmental and social change.
