The Tuscaloosa News is seeking a digital editor to manage our websites and other digital platforms. The ideal candidate would have previous experience producing and promoting multimedia content for a daily newspaper operation, sound news judgment, understanding of libel law and journalistic ethics, familiarity with content management systems and SEO practices, excellent writing and photography skills, ability to shoot and edit video and proficiency with HTML, Adobe Premiere, Caspio, Photoshop and Microsoft Office. The digital editor is a supervisory position, reporting to the executive editor, and with the authority, in collaboration with the city editor and other editors, to direct reporters, videographers, photographers and some other newsroom employees to develop each day’s news report, as well as weekend plans and long-term projects. The position requires a self-starter who can react quickly to breaking news and ensure the newsroom is working with a sense of urgency to provide content for and update our digital products. This person also interacts with key staff members in other departments at the newspaper and the corporate level and must be connected with members of the community and news sources. Responsibilities include producing, editing, organizing and managing content on and other digital platforms, including driving web traffic through social media outlets, such as Facebook and Twitter, and other online tools, writing and editing stories, posting stories and photos, managing blogs, building databases, engaging with site users and collaborating with sports, photo and news departments to help develop multimedia elements to accompany stories. Work schedule typically would be M-F during the day but could include night shifts, weekends and some holidays. Four-year degree in journalism, communications or related field, preferred.
