Job Description

The visual reporter/editor will work directly with the site editor to develop new features for the site, including but not limited to distinctive photo essays, reader photo contests, graphics, charts, original reporting and photojournalism geared toward a growing social media audience.

Responsibilitiesinclude:

• Producing 2 to 3 original web pieces per day
• Developing and launching a series of new regular features and audience engagement tools focused on strong visuals
• Working with the editor and associate editor to ensure high visual and multimedia quality across the site
• Graphics and web production
• Pushing the site’s content out to social media streams like Tumblr, etc.

Qualifications of the Ideal Candidate:

• A minimum of two years of experience in online journalism, preferably as a photo editor or interactive graphics editor, or similar
• Advanced Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator skills
• A proven ability to tell compelling stories in creative, visual ways
• Strong writing skills and web production experience
• Detail-oriented
• HTML, CSS, and JavaScript skills a major plus
