Summary

MyMCMedia has a full-time temporary opening (with benefits) for an experienced community engagement specialist and multimedia journalist to research and produce original stories for distribution on air and web platforms and to help us engage more with Montgomery County residents and communities of interest.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The specialist will be responsible for covering general assignment stories and be responsible for developing sources that lead to unique and compelling content for area PEG television stations (and their web sites) and MyMCMedia's website in Montgomery County, Maryland. The successful candidate will have a thorough understanding of multimedia presentation and software including video editing (Final Cut Pro) and posting on web sites and social networks. Qualified candidate will have significant experience in broadcast and print journalism, blogging, SEO best practices, photography, community development and outreach, local customs, web video production and social media. Ideal candidate will know Montgomery County well including multicultural communities within Montgomery County (and have a great rolodex). 

 

Qualifications

The successful candidate will be a good writer and storyteller with established community and media contacts in Montgomery County. We also need to see the ability to effectively write and engage with the public. This position requires proficiency in producing video packages in house or in the field on tight deadlines, producing copy and video stories for the web and mobile services and producing copy and material for special programs, online blogs and social media. Candidates must be available to work any shift assigned including: weekends, day or evenings. Applicant must have at least 2 to 5 years experience in journalism or public relations with superior writing skills. A Bachelors degree in journalism or public relations is required. Strong computer skills are required. Knowledge of and experience in final cut editing an important plus. 

Terms of Employment

This position is temporary and may terminate at the end of each fiscal year. Funding for this position is directly related to the Combined Services Contract with Montgomery County Government.
