Description:
The Orange County Register – in sunny Southern California -- seeks one or more dynamic copy/design editors to work as paid trainees on its community team. The Register is growing, and humming with opportunity, so we’re looking for eager journalists to be part of it. The ideal candidate will be an entry-level college graduate with the skills and desire to design and edit eye-catching pages for the Register’s rapidly-expanding weekly community papers. Successful candidates will have a command of AP style, keen attention to detail, news judgment, passion for community journalism and a knack for writing compelling headlines. Candidates should be comfortable multitasking and juggling priorities under intense deadline pressure. Must demonstrate ability to work as part of a team where communication is key. We prefer candidates who have worked on their campus newspaper and -- ideally -- in a deadline-driven professional environment, such as a newspaper internship. Experience with CCI Layout Champ is a plus. Orange County is a diverse community, and we value diversity in our newsroom. Each position pays an intern-level wage, and free housing is provided – a significant benefit in Orange County. This is a full-time (40-hour) temporary position. After six months, the most successful trainees will be promoted to apprentice and invited to stay an additional six months, with benefits added. To apply, send resume, cover letter, pdf clips of 10 of your best headlines and five of your best page layouts to SArsenault@ocregister.com . Write “Trainee: Copy/design” in the subject line of your e-mail. No type-written headlines please. No phone calls please.
