Become an assistant professional practice professor of convergence journalism at The Missouri School of Journalism

Time for a mid-career change?  Our growing Convergence Journalism program is looking for an industry professional to teach and lead in these areas: 

  • Data visualization
  • Mobile and tablet reporting
  • Social Media 

Our new assistant professor will be hired as a member of our professional practice faculty and will have significant real-world experience in digital innovation and storytelling.  Strong leadership skills desired with a fearless ability to experiment and learn hands-on tools and techniques.  Most important of all is a desire to “give back” by teaching our bright and highly motivated students.  Teaching experience and a master’s degree are a plus, but not required.  What is required is a passion for mentoring and teaching young people. 

Our program is renowned for its “learning by doing” approach.  We give students real world experience through hands on work at our professional news outlets and partners: NPR affiliate, KBIA-FM; NBC affiliate, KOMU-TV; print and digital newspaper, the Columbia Missourian, and weekly city magazine, Vox.  Students also learn in a successful public-private partnership with digital video startup, Newsy.com. 

This is a full-time faculty position with benefits.  The start date is August 5, 2013. The 12-month non-tenure track appointment offers regular opportunities for contract renewal and promotion. 

Qualifications:

The successful candidate must have a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years industry experience with skills and interests in one or more of the following areas: Data visualization, Mobile reporting, Tablet producing/reporting, Multimedia producing/reporting, Digital strategies, Social media optimization.
