EDITOR – Small Hyper-local Community Weekly in California (Confidential Location).   

The owners of an established, successful small-market weekly newspaper in a beautiful central California community have asked us to assist with a search for an Editor.  This is a confidential search so we can’t reveal the exact location until you enter the interviewing process. It’s part of a larger group of community newspapers with a number of properties in California and throughout the U.S.  In this role, you’ll be part of the management team and play a key role in the positive evolution of this hyper-local community newspaper. While it has done well, they are seeking someone who can take it to the next level and beyond. Though small, it is without question the leading source for news and advertising in its coverage area.

As Editor, you’ll be responsible for local news, breaking news, features, sports and photo – both print and digital (with an emphasis on print). We are seeking someone with a demonstrated passion for local, community journalism. The right candidate will have strong writing and editing skills. You’ll be involved directly in the pagination of the paper so skill with Macintosh InDesign is important. The right candidate will have a proven track record, sound news judgment and strong leadership abilities. As Editor, you’ll lead a small staff of writers and be very involved in the day to day operations. We need someone who likes wearing multiple hats and juggling multiple priorities. To a great extent, you’ll be the face of the newspaper, so positive community involvement is necessary. In a nutshell, your job will be driving readership through engaging, interesting and relevant content.
