The School of Communication at the University of Miami welcomes applications for a five-month Visiting Assistant/Associate Professor to serve as Visiting Knight Chair beginning on June 17, 2013 for its Knight Center for International Media.

The successful candidate will work with undergraduate and graduate students and faculty at the University and at partner schools across South Africa on a documentary multimedia project.  The successful candidate will engage in guest lectures, discussions, seminars, workshops, and other interaction with the School’s graduate students and faculty, and participate in similar projects of the Knight Center.

Candidates should have Bachelor's degree with 10 years of experience in multimedia journalism. Familiarity with communication research is desired, but not required.

The following areas will be emphasized when evaluating candidates:

  1. Experience in international reporting, or authoring scholarly publications on issues related to the role of communication in promoting social justice, advancing human dignity, and implementing civil rights;
  2. Expertise in one or more aspects of multimedia reportage, including video, audio, photojournalism, information graphics, data visualization, design, social media, mobile media, analytics, SEO and coding;
  3. International teaching, research or service experiences;
  4. Evidence of success in managing team journalism initiatives;

The position will be housed at the University’s Coral Gables campus but will also include field work in South Africa.
