Description: Online, Commentary Intern, Education Week Editorial Projects in Education seeks a Web-savvy intern to support the editors of the opinion section of Education Week, the respected, independent newspaper of record for K-12 education. This internship offers an excellent opportunity for a college or graduate student to gain online (and print) experience in a busy news organization.The internship entails working closely with the editors to continue the expansion of the Commentary section of our award-winning website, edweek.org, which edits and publishes opinion essays on education policy. Responsibilities include: • Facilitating the launch and feeding of a contributor-based opinion blog; • Maintaining and growing Education Week Commentary’s social-media presence; • Monitoring opinion blogs and online forums; • Fact-checking and general assistance with publication; • Drafting and sending contracts to authors; • Maintaining contributor information; • Initiating outreach efforts to connect with other education news sites and organizations. Qualifications: The position requires strong writing skills, a high level of comfort with Web production, technology, attention to detail and organization, creativity, and an ability to work independently. Previous experience with social-media management is a plus. The internship pays $10/hour, and the successful candidate must be able to work between 25-40 hours a week.
