Commentary Intern, Education Week

Editorial Projects in Education seeks a Web-savvy intern to support the editors of the opinion section of Education Week, the respected, independent newspaper of record for K-12 education. This internship offers an excellent opportunity for a college senior or graduate student to gain online and print experience in a busy news organization. The internship entails working closely with the editors to continue the expansion of the Commentary section ofour award-winning website,, which edits and publishes opinion essays on education policy.

Responsibilities include:
• Fact-checking and general assistance with publication, including production duties as assigned;

• Monitoring letters to the editor in-box and managing correspondence with writers;

• Contributing to blogs; 

• Contributing to online forum generation;
• Helping to produce multi-media projects; 
• Fostering internal cross-channel communication and information;
• Drafting and sending contracts to authors;
• Editing blog posts, social media, and letters to the editor to AP and EPE house style.


Qualifications: The position requires strong writing skills, a high level of comfort with Web production, technology, attention to detail and organization, creativity, and an ability to work independently. Previous experience with social-media management is a plus. The internship pays $10/hour. The successful candidate must be able to work between 25-40 hours a week in the office. This is not a telecommuting position. Position begins as soon as possible.
