If you are newer in your journalism career, have a passion for politics, an enthusiasm for online content, and a comfort moving through the digital world of web-posting, social media and the Internet, this is your opportunity to develop your skills and take your career to the next level. You’ll join a new Opinions department and work almost exclusively with digital platforms including the PennLive website and mobile devices. You'll also enjoy the benefit of working closely with a highly experienced and respected journalist from whom you can learn, while also supporting department goals and objectives by posting, writing, editing, sharing ideas and meeting deadlines, and using your own voice. This is a highly-visible role for an enthusiastic journalist with a strong work-ethic, educated opinions and a great sense of humor. To be a strong fit for the Deputy Opinions Editor role, you will need:
  • A bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or a related field, or the equivalent experience
  • A minimum of two to three years of journalism experience
  • Experience with search engine optimization practices
  • Mastery of social media and digital interaction; experience using social media to promote content is a plus
  • Excellent writing and editing skills and a solid understanding of journalistic ethics
  • Experience posting online content; basic HTML or equivalent web language is a plus
  • The capability of capitalizing on high-value political topics that will build and engage an audience and motivate interaction
  • An understanding of the methods and tools used to deliver content across multiple digital platforms
