Description:

As part of the Corporate Communications team, the writer will gather information through research and interviews to develop print and digital content for employees (highly specialized engineers, economists, and other professionals) and a broad range of external audiences (national and regional media, utility and energy companies, financial institutions, state policymakers and commissioners, and federal regulators).

The writer will develop ideas for, write, and edit annual reports, brochures, web copy, external and internal news articles, executive announcements, speeches, and presentations.
 
He/she will edit and manage content submitted for publication by employees across the company, proofread content written by other members of the communications team, and occasionally support the editing of technical reports. The writer will adhere to and implement editorial standards for quality and style following the Chicago Manual of Style and company-specific guidelines.
 
The writer will coordinate and post content to the company’s intranet and external websites and is responsible for finding and editing photos and graphics for this content.
 

The writer must explore and recommend new, creative solutions and opportunities applicable to the company’s communication products. He/she must develop a strong understanding of the business to ensure that key messages are reflected in all communications.
 
Minimum 5 years of demonstrated, successful writing experience in corporate communications, PR, or journalism. Qualified candidates must be able to simplify highly complex, technical information; express messages persuasively; present information clearly, consistently, and logically; and establish context, content, and tone appropriately for the intended audiences and purpose. Candidates must be adept at writing for a variety of styles: web, news, reports, speeches, etc.

  • Uses sound judgment when determining content for written pieces
  • Strategic and creative
  • Willing to take on highly complex subject matter
  • Familiarity with Chicago Manual of Style
  • Fluency with Microsoft Office suite of tools
  • Proficient using/learning digital and web-based tools
  • Knowledge of or interest in energy industry a plus
  • Experience writing annual reports a plus
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, English, or related field.
