KENTUCKY CENTER FOR INVESTIGATIVE REPORTING

Louisville Public Media (LPM), which operates the city’s three public radio stations,
has secured funding to establish the Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting, which
will pursue high-quality, high-impact investigative journalism in the public interest.
The investigative mission of the center will be to help seek protection for society’s most
vulnerable citizens; to assist in exposing wrongdoing by government officials as well as
those in the private sector; while also endeavoring to increase the transparency of their
actions; and to aid in the search for solutions to the most pressing problems of the day;
be they environmental, economic, political, judicial or educational. The reporting will be
widely distributed on radio, web, and print, and will be amplified through partnerships
with other news organizations.

LPM is seeking a dynamic leader and experienced journalist to serve as the MANAGING
EDITOR of the new operation, with responsibility for all editorial content, production,
and distribution. The managing editor is a member of the LPM management team,
reports to the president of LPM, and works cooperatively with LPM’s director of news
and editorial strategy.

The ideal candidate will bring at least 10 years of journalism experience coupled with
strong supervisory skills, a background in investigative journalism; knowledge of
computer-assisted reporting techniques and emerging technologies; and the ability to
serve as a spokesperson and raise funds in support of the organization. A master’s
degree or equivalent experience is required.

LPM is also searching for REPORTERS (4) who will work under the supervision of the
managing editor to produce investigative reporting adhering to the highest standards of
journalistic fairness, accuracy, and integrity. At least five years of journalism experience
is required with a strong record of investigative journalism which has produced results.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential, along with a willingness
to work cooperatively in a team setting. A four-year degree in journalism or equivalent
required.
