Description: Please apply here: http://jobs.ufl.edu/ Requistion# 902197, INFORMATION SPECIALIST Deadline: 2/12/2013 This Information Specialist position on the Health Science Center’s Advancement Communications team is a professional writer/journalist with excellent organizational and planning skills who will assist in producing content for a variety of college publications, both printed and electronic. The ideal candidate is experienced in reporting, information gathering and news, feature and Web writing, and the professional use of social media, and is proficient in multimedia formats such as photo slideshows and video presentations and content management systems. Superb writing skills, accuracy, enthusiasm, reliability and the ability to work quickly and well as a member of a productive team are essential. Criminal Background Check required. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB: 1. Reporting and Writing Produces news and feature stories for a variety of print and electronic publications, including the College of Medicine’s alumni magazine, Florida Physician, and its alumni newsletter, Dr. Gator. Also, responds to assignments for Health in a Heartbeat radio program; the Health Science Center news publication The POST and various Health Science Center Web sites. Covers special events, such as gift announcements, awards presentations, lectures and grand rounds. Must be well-versed in Associated Press style. Works closely with editors to review assignments, story drafts and ideas for upcoming work assignments. Complies with editing, review, news distribution and identity/branding policies of HSC News and Communications and the university. 2. Web and Social Media Communications Assists the assistant director in conceptualizing and developing news stories for electronic media (Web pages and Insider) and manages online content and social media sites. Using Facebook, Twitter and blog sites to help increase visibility of published stories, events and college advancements as well as alumni activities. Monitors trends in social media tools and advises on new methods that could increase the effectiveness of online communications and social media for the College of Medicine. Measure the impact of social media on our overall communications efforts. 3. Special Publications Assists in the production of materials designed to support the efforts of the development and alumni affairs office, including brochures, annual reports, campaign materials and donor profiles.
