SUMMARY

The Online Discipline Manager/Editor writes and edits articles of interest and importance to HR professionals for two or three Discipline web sites within SHRM Online. This role contributes to an award-winning team by producing weekly articles on topics such as Diversity, Employee Relations and other trending human resource topics. The incumbent will source, commission, and write news and feature articles and coordinate discipline web content, webcasts and chats.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

Manages two or three Discipline web sites.

Develops and/or sources news and feature articles. 

Posts new original content plus related content from other internal and external sources, and updates Discipline front page content and graphic displays on a regular basis.

Creates scheduled e-newsletters that alert members to new content and events related to the Discipline.

Develops ideas for new ideas for web features for Disciplines, as well as HR Magazine and other print publications. 

Participates in discussions regarding continuing viability of individual Disciplines and contributes to identifying and launching new Disciplines.

Identifies and maintains relationships with third-party content providers that provide material to enhance the Discipline web sites. 

Coordinates and collaborates with Knowledge Development, Member Services, Publications, Editorial, and other SHRM staff to ensure that the Disciplines' content best represents SHRM as well as the informational and networking needs of its members. 

Attends SHRM's Annual Conference to write for SHRM's Conference Daily. Travels to other related conferences to contribute copy for SHRM's publications.

Utilizes social media to promote SHRM content and reach new readers. 

 

REQUIRED SKILLS

Excellent communication skills and the ability to deal effectively with a wide variety of personality types is essential, as is the need to work effectively with tight daily and weekly deadlines. 
 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Bachelor's Degree in journalism or related field. Five years' experience in publishing as a news writer or an equivalent level of experience.

Minimum of five years publishing experience to include news writing about human resource management, business or related fields for a newspaper, magazine, association publication, or web site (experience must include writing or editing for online publication).

Experience with association web sites or publication’s associated with human resource management is a plus.
