Description: This is a new journalist/management rotation program for entry-level journalists to gain experience in community print & video journalism while working outside the United States (Beijing, China). Two of our weekly newspapers are located in Southern California and the third is in Henderson, Nevada (for examples of our daily video news broadcast see www.hendersonpress.com and www.thevalleychronicle.com... iPhone/Android app keywords "the valley chronicle"). Note: This on-the-job program is located in our research and operations center in Beijing, China. This is where we centralize layout, video and ad production, support, etc. Several American journalists are currently working at this office. The objective is to introduce to potential journalists/managers experience in all major areas of managing a newspaper including: editorial, advertising sales, circulation sales, distribution, operations and finance. Following a 12-18-month training program, journalist should understand enough of the operations of a newspaper to either take on a role as a journalist, editor, advertising rep or manager, etc. • Advertising: Work with local advertising reps on advertising campaigns, gather ideas from local businesses, help with projects such as business expos, career fairs, etc. • Work with technical designer on story editing, video segment production and compiling daily video broadcasts • Communicate clearly with remote newspaper staff (publisher, advertising manager, editor, journalists, etc.) • Require minimal direct supervision By the end of 12 months, you will have created more than 200 video news segments (analysis, copy-edit, storyboard, script, voice over & produce with our design/tech videoeditors). You will also supervise the creation of more than 200 video news broadcasts, created and updated hundreds of advertisements, and supervised the creation of more than 50 weekly printed newspapers. You will be proficient in managing small projects, copy-editing, video editing, page layout, advertising production, customer support, etc. Requirement: We are only interested in people passionate about journalism. A degree in journalism. A related degree is acceptable if a journalism degree is not offered by your university. Compensation: lodging near our Beijing office plus a stipend for food and spending money. Following this OTJ program there may also be an opportunity to work at one of our newspapers or the newspaper of one of our partners.
