Description:
POSITION TITLE: Adviser, Features JOB FUNCTION: The Features adviser manages OU Student Media's multiple-publication features department. Recruit, train and advise staffs for award-winning publications such as Sooner yearbook, Sower magazine, various special sections and other projects. Oversee printing and payroll budgets, marketing and sales efforts, portraits and production schedules. There is also the possibility of serving as an adjunct instructor teaching a practicum or class in the Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication each semester. DEPARTMENT PREFERENCES: Prefer 60 months professional experience in media, ideally with 24 months in collegiate advising. Prefer experience managing a budget and a staff. SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS TO APPLICANTS: Applicants are required to submit professional portfolio demonstrating strong design, photo and writing skills. REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in journalism or communications OR equivalent work and education related experience. 36 months professional experience in media. REQUIRED SKILLS AND PROFICIENCES: Demonstrated knowledge of writing, editing, design, photography and printing techniques necessary to train and advise student employees and volunteers. Demonstrated knowledge of skills required for classroom teaching or staff training or development. Demonstrated excellent leadership skills, including the ability to train and motivate student employees and student volunteers. Demonstrated excellence in communication skills. Demonstrated experience with production and deadline schedules. Demonstrated experience in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite or other layout programs. Demonstrated ability to manage a budget, overseeing revenue and expenses, as well as sales and promotions. Demonstrated evidence of excellence interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability of long-term planning. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team. Demonstrated evidence of excellent follow-through skills.
