The successful candidate will work out of Beacon Communication’s Warwick office, with work appearing in all three Beacon papers (Warwick Beacon, Cranston Herald, Johnston Sun Rise) that have a combined circulation of 20,000 weekly. We are in need of a full-time general assignment reporter who can cover a variety of topics, including politics and government. His or her time would be split between reporting and overseeing the arts and entertainment section, which we are looking to redesign. For the lifestyles section, this individual would be expected to generate at least three stories weekly (in addition to front-section reporting), coordinate content with staff and freelance writers, assign and edit copy and work with our creative director on the presentation of the section. Reporter would be expected to use company Twitter and Facebook accounts to promote stories and interact with readers. We are looking for an energetic self-starter who can work independently. A grasp of AP style is needed, and knowledge of Quark and InDesign is suggested. Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in journalism or communications.
