Description:

The Houston Business Journal, serving one of the largest and most dynamic cities in the country, seeks a sharp, energetic professional to drive audience growth and engagement from inside the newsroom. This individual will be as skilled at editing copy as he or she is at networking with top-level decision makers. This new position, the Audience Engagement Editor, is charged with monitoring, engaging and growing HBJ's business audience across all platforms — online, social, mobile, print, events and more. A strong candidate will have proven experience in the newsroom, managing social media, understanding and using SEO and connecting personally with audience. The Audience Engagement Editor will work collaboratively with all HBJ departments to grow the publication's following across all platforms. Excelling at this job will require creativity, teamwork, interpersonal skills, resourcefulness and an insatiable desire to achieve measurable results. HBJ is part of American City Business Journals, profitable publisher of 43 business journals across the country.  
Priorities will include:
• Establish and manage newsroom social media and SEO best practices
• Grow audience and engagement across all products and platforms
• Help set, drive and share ownership of traffic goals
• Support editorial portion of HBJ events
Duties include:
• Develop and execute content strategies to consistently grow audience, engagement and HBJ's brand across multiple platforms
• Oversee and generate content for HBJ editorial social media accounts
• Analyze daily analytics to inform newsroom decisions and promote cross-departmental collaboration
• Develop creative cross-promotion of print and online content
• Assist with outreach and manage nominations and applications for award publications and events
Required skills:
• Fluency in social media
• 1-2 years online news experience
• Editing and headline writing skills
• Professional interpersonal skills
