Founded by Andrew Carnegie in 1914, Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs is an educational, nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that produces lectures, publications, and multimedia materials on the ethical challenges of living in a globalized world. Its work is rooted in the premise that the incorporation of moral principles into discussions of international affairs will yield a more peaceful, just world. The educational value of the Council's programs lies in its three-part formula: thematic focus on ethics, access to world-renowned experts, and an in-house studio that produces video and audio resources for a global market.

Carnegie Council seeks a producer to work on the production of the TV, radio, and podcast programs derived from presentations, panels, interviews, etc. The producer will manage the work flow, implement the process, and market the outcomes. He/she will work with the executive producer of the Carnegie Ethics Studio and Council program directors.

Candidates should have a good basis in international affairs, technical knowledge of the editing process, and effective project management skills. The ideal candidate will also have superior administrative and writing skills. The position requires a blend of managing content, creativity, technique, and marketing, as well as experience working in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment. Candidates must have a portfolio of past work to demonstrate their production skills, and come with ideas on improving the impact and reach of the Council's multimedia products. The successful candidate will be diplomatic, of the highest integrity, and possess sound judgment and interpersonal skills.


  • A minimum of 32 events per season are turned into both TV and radio shows 
  • A new weekly audio show must be developed combining material from Council events and original writing and interviews. 
  • Other programs including radio interviews, video podcasts, etc. must be produced 
  • Presentations, panels, interviews, etc. are cut down to standard formats emphasizing the both the effectiveness and intellectual quality of the event 
  • Teasers, occasional scripts, Introductions, etc. must written for some products 
  • Program directors need to be consulted regarding the final products and the key points to emphasize

Project Management: 

  • Oversee and drive the process for all produced programming 
  • Oversee work of freelance journalists and content providers to enhance programming (both audio and video) 
  • Help select the events to be used 
  • Track each project and keep it on time for distribution to outlets 
  • Keep spread sheets and staff updated regularly 


  • Assist the video and audio editors as appropriate 
  • Assist in finding music 
  • Suggest ways to make the programming better 
  • Keep abreast of technical changes that make shows more effective and marketable 


  • Contact distribution channels including Public Radio stations, PRX, TV stations, cable outlets, etc. 
  • Get feedback from them to improve the programming 
  • Help increase the outreach 
  • Help devise new or alternative programming to implement the mission of the Carnegie Council 

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree 
  • Excellent project management skills 
  • Three years of responsible, related production work experience 
  • Strong interest and knowledge in ethics and international affairs 
  • Entrepreneurial with a proven record of working independently 
  • Very well organized and attentive to detail. Able to work effectively under pressure with competing priorities 
  • Outstanding oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Access, Excel, and PowerPoint) 
  • Knowledge of FinalCut Pro is a plus
