Description: The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette is looking for a business editor to oversee its statewide coverage of business, which includes Wal-Mart, Tyson Foods, Dillard's, Acxiom and several national trucking companies. The right candidate will have a strong understanding of business, finance and agriculture, and a proven record of being able to communicate that understanding through writing, editing and art elements. The business editor works with his or her staff and other newsroom editors to develop ideas for staff-written stories. The business editor also is expected to stay abreast of national and international financial and technological news. The Democrat-Gazette publishes a free-standing business section seven days a week, and the business editor oversees the coverage for each section. The business editor also recommends stories for 1A. He or she supervises an assistant business editor and eight reporters. Applicants should have a minimum of a bachelor's degree in journalism or equivalent newspaper experience, as well as excellent leadership and team-building skills. Experience as an editor and knowledge of business and finance is essential. Qualified applicants will possess excellent language skills, sound news judgment, awareness of effective presentation and strong time-management abilities. The position sometimes requires night and weekend work. A valid driver's license, a personal vehicle and valid insurance are required, as is proof of U.S. citizenship.
