Media Relations Manager

Maersk Oil is looking for a sharp communicator with a strategic focus, excellent writing skills and a passion for the oil and gas industry. Maersk Oil’s media policy is to be open, transparent and proactive with an approach that is driven by varied local business needs. This is why we are looking for your ability to investigate and understand complex technical and commercial details, translating them into compelling narratives for an external audience.

Maersk Oil, part of the global A.P. Moller – Maersk Group, is a medium-sized independent oil company with big ambitions. We will double our production in years to come, investing USD 3-5bn annually in projects in countries as far flung as Brazil, Angola, Kazakhstan, Iraq, Qatar and the North Sea region.

You will have plenty of variation in your work as you learn about and support Maersk Oil’s 11 Business and Exploration Units, as well as Corporate Headquarters, with their media relations needs. To gain a deep understanding of the business, you will engage with personnel ranging from the CEO, country managers to the frontline staff out on an oil platform. You will develop and execute media strategies for Maersk Oil globally and for locations with widely varying media landscapes. You will interact closely with local communication employees where they exist and with the Communications and Investor Relations departments of A.P. Moller – Maersk.

You will be part of a growing professional team that has embraced all forms of traditional, social and multimedia communication. The team works in an informal, fast-paced but supportive and collaborative environment.

Key responsibilities

Your primary tasks will be the execution of a global Maersk Oil media strategy and overseeing the execution of local media strategies and plans. This includes:

  • Press announcements e.g. press releases, press conferences, interviews
  • Sustained media campaigns
  • Media coaching and training of senior managers
  • Editor of quarterly magazine, available for employees and the public
  • Crisis communication
  • Issue management
  • Collaboration with partner companies and industry bodies, when needed
  • Media relations support to commercially sensitive projects

Who are we looking for

You bring at least 5 years’ experience as an international journalist or as a media relations officer at a major international company.

Fluent spoken and written English is a requirement. Portuguese, Arabic or Russian a plus.

You are able to:

  • Understand the very different media needs of Maersk Oil’s business units
  • Absorb complex information and translate it into compelling stories
  • Create and maintain good relations with the media
  • Create and maintain a strong internal network spread across a variety of countries
  • Deliver quickly and under pressure when needed
  • Manage multiple projects in different countries simultaneously
