Description:

The Tallahassee Democrat has an immediate opening for a Special Publications and Digital Editor. The Special Publications and Digital Editor works closely with the Tallahassee Democrat’s advertising and news departments to produce advertising-driven products such as Living Here: A Guide to Living in the Tallahassee Area, Tallahassee Your Health, Your Health Presents the Annual Physician & Health Care Directory, Springtime Tallahassee, Tour of Lights, Home & Design and HomeFinder Weekly.

 

Responsibilities vary from product to product, from copy-editing on HomeFinder Weekly to assuming a comprehensive role for the monthly Your Health and bi-monthly Home & Design magazines, including prospecting for leads, identifying sources, scouting locations, generating story ideas, planning coverage, assigning stories and photos, coordinating with freelancers, supervising photo shoots, selecting and editing art, writing stories, initial story editing, copy editing, writing display type, ad placement, design, proofing, final product approval and Web uploading. Qualified candidate will be able to produce content in multiple formats (text, photo, video and audio) and also have experience with social media. In addition, this person will assist daily in planning news content in the evenings for our mobile and tablet presences, working with day-parting of content and web producing.

Candidates should have demonstrated excellence as a reporter and have a proven record of developing sources, originating story ideas and writing in a clear and engaging way. Design and editing experience is required. Successful candidate must understand the growing importance of multimedia news and have some advertising knowledge and be able to coordinate effectively across departments. Ideal candidate will have Bachelor’s degree plus at least five years of full-time reporting experience combined with design and editing experience. Travel will not be a primary focus of this position, but it could be required from time to time.
