Associate Editor: Digital Media and Movies

Philadelphia City Paper, the region’s award-winning, independent alt-weekly, has an opening for a Digital Media and Movies Editor.

This position’s Digital Media Editor duties include overseeing all the content on citypaper.net and City Paper’s social media efforts. The Digital Media Editor devises new ways to drive traffic to the site via the articles and blogs, creating new features and reassessing existing ones; uploads each weekly print issue’s content in a timely manner; manages the non-food blogs and edits blog posts; writes two to four blog posts a day and works with staff members to come up with a schedule for their postings; manages social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram); selects content for the e-newsletter and devises strategies for increasing subscriber numbers; and creates innovative online features that make the website fresh and interesting. He/she will send weekly reports about digital-media efforts to the Editor-in-Chief.

This position’s Movies Editor duties include assigning and editing two to four short weekly reviews; compiling the “New,” “Continuing” and “Repertory” movie listings for the print edition; and keeping abreast of movie news for potential A&E features. The employee must exercise discretion and independent judgment regarding the editorial content for which he/she is responsible.

The Digital Media and Movies Editor must be a team player who will contribute to City Paper’s special issues, such as the Big Vision Awards and City Guide.

Requirements:

Candidates must have at least at least 2 years previous experience with digital media efforts; must demonstrate a solid understanding of successful web, blogging and social media strategies; and must be a solid writer and editor. A familiarity with and interest in film and the local film scene is preferable.

City Paperdoes not offer relocation assistance. Local candidates will receive preference. Salary is up to 30K.
