Description:
The Associated Press seeks a Newsperson/Copy Editor for its Washington, D.C. Broadcast operation.  This Editor will be responsible for copy editing scripts, shotlists and headlines across multiple AP video platforms. This Newsperson will work closely with other video supervisors and producers to deliver the best possible storytelling and video images to AP's broadcast and digital clients, together with AP's own mobile and digital platforms. This person will be responsible for ensuring all scripts and video content meet the company's standards for accuracy and balanced reporting. The Newsperson will be required to liaise closely with the Washington DC, New York and London news desks and with regional desks across the US. They will assign stories to producers, and create video packages using a non-linear desktop editing system (Adobe Premier). They will also play a key role in leading the production team when necessary, and perform other newsroom duties as assigned.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have 5 or more years of video journalism experience with strong writing, copy editing and video editing skills. We want a journalist who takes ownership of stories and works through obstacles to get the job done. The ideal candidate has solid news judgment and is a strong visual storyteller who can react quickly and adjusts priorities depending on the news.  Must have the ability to work in a deadline driven, dynamic and competitive newsroom environment. Previous experience working in a multimedia newsroom is a must along with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.  Must have a demonstrated ability to collaborate with and direct producers, both here in DC and remotely.  Strong communication and organizational skills are a must with the ability to juggle multiple projects and priorities.  Candidate must have experience copy editing and video editing non-linear video, preferably in Adobe or Final Cut Pro. The preferred candidate is familiar with photo editing software, preferably Adobe Photoshop.  Must be willing to work a variety of shifts, including nights and weekends. Candidates must be able to demonstrate a high level of fluency in written and spoken English. Authorization to work in the United States is mandatory.
