Description: UPI Next, the media development division of United Press International, seeks a senior editor with strong news background to work on news feature content from around the world. You’d be members of a close-knit team working to build the skills and professionalism of new and student journalists, with special focus on the Middle East and Asia. Hours are part-time (20 hours a week) and mostly flexible. Pay commensurate with experience. Chief duties include: -Final approval on stories submitted via the mentoring process, for publication via UPI -Feedback to mentors on problem areas in stories -Coordinate with senior editors in countries where UPI Next has projects on the ground -Develop weekly budget of stories and manage copy flow to UPI -Liaise between mentors with UPI Next and the editorial staff of UPI to ensure content produced via mentoring programs and outside partnerships meets UPI’s journalism standards -Liaise with digital business and licensing staff of UPI, to ensure content meets the requirements of marketing and monetizing content -Use and give feedback on UPI Next story evaluation tools and their accuracy in measuring the quality of content. This position requires: -Extensive work experience in producing content for large-scale (preferably international) distribution -Experience in developing content streams and editing the work of journalists from a wide range of abilities -Ability to analyze and clearly communicate the degree to which specific elements of content meet standards, preferably in a system of formal evaluations -Familiarity with audience metrics and business management.
