Job Title:Communications Director

Reports to:President and CEO

 

Summary of Responsibilities:Under the direction of the NAIMA President & CEO, the Communications Director provides administrative and fundamental support with a focus on developing, coordinating and managing marketing communications activities for NAIMA and, where appropriate, in support of its members.

 

Preferred Education:Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism or public relations.

 

Required Experience:Five to seven years experience in the communications and/or marketing field within a corporation or agency with strong strategic thinking capabilities and project management skills. Experience in the building materials industry and/or not-for-profit professional associations is a plus.

 

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience in developing and managing projects and budgets.
  • Experience in managing external partners.
  • Ability to think strategically, implement plans and analyze results.
  • Internal communication and leadership skills within the overall team concept, maintaining personal accountability for success.
  • Strong communication skills both in written and verbal form. Prior media training.  
  • Unquestionable integrity, commitment to advance interests of the organization, dedication to constant improvement.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel; and capable of using social media tools including Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter for the benefit of our members. Desktop publishing software experience is a plus.
  • Ability to travel occasionally to fulfill responsibilities is required (estimated 15%).
  • Ability to serve as spokesperson to industry and all types of media, representing NAIMA and its members in the most positive light.

 

Responsibilities in Detail:

  • Developing and executing marketing programs that positively affect NAIMA memberships, services, research and education.
  • Work with agency partner to develop year-round marketing and public relations strategies and plans encompassing all NAIMA departments and other activities, targeting trade and consumer media.
  • Supervise agency partner’s production and distribution of all public relations and marketing materials, such as eNewsletters, press releases, case studies and white papers.
  • While constantly keeping the President & CEO informed and involved, work with agency partners to handle information requests from trade and consumer media, as well as requests from outside the industry.
  • Build relationships that benefit NAIMA and its members. Contribute to the value of our brand in the building materials industry.
  • Be a strong team player and continually contribute to the value of the NAIMA team and its members.
  • Coordinate and/or participate in special communications projects including the development of marketing or public relations videos, public service announcements, communications targeted to special market segments, industry-wide special events and media appearances representing NAIMA and the industry.
  • Establish and work within the guidelines of the organization‘s communications budget.
  • Provide support and service to all internal departments and committees regarding their communications needs, including letter and speech writing and development of audio/visual and presentation materials.
  • Help develop solutions for unforeseen situations; prepare and carry out plans for crisis management.
  • Write articles for NAIMA blog and eNewsletters. Travel to industry meetings, trade shows and other events, as required, to represent NAIMA, keep current with the industry and report on industry and member activities.
  • May serve as lead staff liaison to NAIMA Communications Committee.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
