The Associated Press seeks a Newsperson/Political Writer based in Miami, Florida.

Florida politics are intense, intriguing and often history-making. The AP seeks a reporter who understands the dynamics of Florida politics, its players and the issues that resonate not just nationally but globally. We seek a journalist who can build sources, break news and capture the essence of the issues and players. The position places a premium on accountability and investigative reporting, as well as the ability to conduct interviews in both English and Spanish. The successful candidate will report to the news editor in Florida and work with other AP staff in Washington, D.C., and the AP's south regional operation in Atlanta.   Responsibilities include both spot news and analytical reporting and writing.  The correspondent must have a demonstrated ability to break news through strong, aggressive source development and maintenance.

The political writer: * Sets an example of aggressive, competitive news coverage. * Writes accurately and quickly on deadline. * Aggressively pursues breaking news. * Conceives, reports and writes compelling enterprise stories. * Develops sources and beats to produce original reporting.

Qualifications: Candidates should have demonstrated excellence in reporting and writing, including the ability to develop sources, break news, originate story ideas and write about complex issues in a clear and engaging way. Ideal candidate should be highly organized with the ability to multi task, prioritize and meet deadlines. Must be able to recognize strong story ideas from a variety of sources and develop newsworthy stories of state, national and global interest. Experience in accountability journalism, including filing freedom of information requests, is required. Multimedia experience gathering of audio and video would also be considered a plus. Other Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. * Ability to work accurately in a deadline-driven environment. * Ability to communicate effectively both written and orally to a varied audience. * Demonstrated high level of fluency in both written and spoken Spanish. * Strong organizational skills, with proven ability to juggle multiple stories across formats and meet deadlines. * Strong interpersonal skills and solid news judgment.   * Demonstrated ability to work in or have the understanding of multi format journalism. * Demonstrated strong news judgment. Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English language is required.  Authorization to work in the U.S. will be mandatory.
