Description:

Shaw Media is looking for an experienced Editor to lead the Northwest Herald's award-winning staff of journalists.

The recipient of two EPpy awards and numerous other regional and national awards, the Northwest Herald is known across the industry as one of the best midsized dailies in the country, both in print and digital. Because we are located in the competitive Chicago media market, we need a newsroom leader who will make us even better.

The next Editor understands the importance of digital journalism and social media's role in it. We need to consistently grow audience online by offering around-the-clock breaking news headlines and compelling commentary. We don't simply cross-publish stories between print and online. We produce content daily that's exclusive to, and appropriate for, each medium. But how we approach digital journalism needs to continue to evolve and improve.

We also expect our print product to be exceptional each day. While most newspapers across the country have seen double-digit decreases in circulation in recent years, the Northwest Herald has been able to minimize losses in readership.

Northwest Herald's Editor reports to the publisher, directly supervises our section and digital editors, and oversees a staff of about 40. The Editor also runs Editorial Board meetings and manages our daily Opinion page.

The Editor will help formulate the Northwest Herald's strategic plan, and successfully implement the plan. The Editor will work with the advertising director to create new revenue opportunities, and with the circulation director to create new readership opportunities.

At least five years of professional experience in a newsroom leadership role is preferred.

Must have a valid drivers license, dependable transportation and proof of insurance.

Shaw Media offers an extensive benefit package.
