Reporting to the news editor, the copy editor/page designer must have sound news judgment, exceptional editing, headline-writing and page-design skills, and the ability to do high-quality work at a fast pace for the news, sports and features pages of our newspapers and websites.

The successful candidate will have excellent news judgment, grammar skills, and be proficient in AP Style. Should also be a talented designer with experience in Adobe InDesign, QuarkXPress and other Web and print publishing software. Experience with Photoshop and knowledge of SEO a plus. A test of technical design skills and copy editing will be required.

Two years of professional experience is preferred, but will consider recent graduates with good clips from internship or college newspaper work.

These are evening positions with some weekend work required.

The job is based in the Longview offices of the News-Journal. The News-Journal is the flagship of Texas Community Newspapers, a group of two daily and one twice-weekly newspapers and associated websites in the oil-rich piney woods of East Texas, an area known for its outdoor recreational opportunities, proximity to Dallas metro area, and temperate climate.
