The Tuscaloosa News, winner of the 2012 Pulitzer Prize for breaking news reporting and home of the University of Alabama and its championship Crimson Tide football team, is seeking an assistant city editor to help manage the city desk. The ideal candidate would have a hard-news reporting background, at least two years of daily newspaper experience in a supervisory/editing role, excellent news judgment and writing skills, the ability to edit and rewrite copy on deadline, proficiency with social media, experience posting to multiple platforms, and ability to work well on a team. Duties and responsibilities include supervising and coaching reporters, developing coverage plans, assigning and editing stories, web updates, scheduling photos, overseeing some enterprise and in-depth projects and occasionally reporting and writing stories. Typical work schedule would be the Tuesday-Saturday night shift and some holidays. This position reports directly to the city editor and works in tandem with the web content editor.
