EdSource, founded in 1977 to engage the public and policy makers on key challenges facing its public schools, is seeking an experienced and creative web manager to oversee the organization’s online operations and to develop new ways of presenting information to policy makers and the larger public.

 

In particular, the successful applicant will help build the organization’s website EdSource Today, California’s only online journalism site devoted entirely to education issues.

 

This position is part of a growing team of researchers and reporters developing new and innovative ways to reach multiple audiences on the challenges affecting public education in California and nationally. 

 

Qualifications

 

  1. Enthusiastic about working as part of a growing team in a creative nonprofit environment with an expanding journalism arm to build a unique online service focused on education.
  2. Good working knowledge of PHP and JavaScript.
  3. Knowledge of data visualization, and how to use data and design to foster engagement and knowledge sharing.
  4. Excellent working knowledge of WordPress, HTML and CSS; knowledge of MODX a plus.
  5. Strong writing ability, as well as editing/proofreading skills.
  6. Audio and video editing skills a plus.
  7. A creative problem solver with an ability to find and adapt existing online tools to meet the organization’s needs whenever feasible.
  8. Proven ability to work independently under deadline pressures, as well as working as part of a team.

•     Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to maintain productive and positive communication with co-workers.

 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Maintain EdSource and EdSource Today website content management systems and design.
  • Work closely with staff to present reports and data in a visually appealing way.
  • Provide creative multimedia ideas for online interactive projects.
  • Harness new and emerging online strategies to increase impact of EdSource reports.
  • Prepare and post audio and visual content (e.g. podcasts and videos) as needed.
  • Promote web content to social media sites like Twitter and Facebook.
  • Track and inform staff on industry trends and web communication technologies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

This is a full time position based in downtown Oakland.
