Melwood Global (, a public relations firm with offices in the Washington, DC area and Boston, Massachusetts, seeks an intern to work from its Bethesda, Maryland, office. The firm works on behalf of numerous clients both in the United States and abroad in the fields of international aid, foreign policy, transportation, energy, health care and disability issues, to name a few. The firm is owned by former journalists who place a premium on writing skills, strong media relations contacts, and the ability to think strategically about placement.

You might be the right person for this internship if:

·       Real-world experience is more important to you than position titles or a big-name firm;

·        You are a go-getter who believes you can accomplish any task you are given;

·       You already have some experience working in a newsroom or public relations setting;

·       You are confident in your ability to think your way through a challenge on a tight deadline;

·       You never give up and will regroup/rethink/re-strategize until the job is done the right way.

Candidates must have the following qualifications:

·       Currently enrolled as a college student preferably in communications, journalism or related field;

·       Superb writing abilities;

·       Confident and outgoing personality;

·       Unending curiosity about and voracious appetite for news – local, national and international;

·       Ability to grasp multiple issues across multiple industries within tight deadlines;

·       Excellent time management skills;

·       Detail oriented;

·       Comfortable with both Mac and PC;

·       Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills;

·       Proven understanding and effective use of social media platforms and communications tools;

·       Video shooting and editing skills a plus.

This is an unpaid internship, offered in exchange for college course credit. Schedule is flexible and will be discussed.

Dates are anticipated to be from January to May 2013.
