Company: Sacramento News & Review
Arts/Culture/Music Staff Writer
Job Status:  Full-time
Ad Expires:
February 8, 2013
Job ID: 1459928

Are you Sacramento News & Review's next arts, culture and music writer?

Published weekly since 1989, the award-winning SN&R provides the greater Sacramento area with a lively mixture of news, features, commentary, arts and a calendar of events.

Our Mission:
To publish great newspapers that are successful and enduring.
To create a quality work environment that encourages employees to grow professionally while respecting personal welfare.
To have a positive impact on our communities and make them better places to live.

This city's weekly paper needs an intelligent, experienced and enterprising reporter and writer to join its on-site staff.

The ideal candidate has done the staff-writer gig already: worked a few years for a widely read publication, produced award-winning-caliber cover stories, delivered smart and unexpected music stories, arts features, reviews and previews, executed analytical trend stories, even rolled-off the occasional eye-catching blog post.

You're talented, versatile, smart, funny. You go out, work nights, attend shows and eventually become a face in the community. You approach arts and music coverage like a reporter. You're curious--but you have an opinion, too.

This SN&R music-arts position is a full time salaried position with competitive benefits and nice perks--90,000 weekly readers in print, paid time off, ping-pong matches, etc.

-Two to three years previous experience as a full-time, on-staff writer or reporter required.
-Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from a four-year college or university is strongly preferred.
-Hitting deadlines is a must.
-Analytical mind complemented by a keen sense of humor is strongly preferred. Calm, reasonable, personable candidates will succeed where high-strung, angry and stand-offish candidates won't.

A passion for the city and SN&R is desired.
