Description: Honolulu Civil Beat is looking for a Deputy Editor who can help take our nearly 3-year-old news operation to a new level. Launched in May 2010, we are Hawaii’s largest news organization dedicated exclusively to public affairs journalism. We need someone who is passionate about investigative reporting and watchdog journalism, but who's also willing take ownership of what has become one of the most vital news outlets in the state. If you only want to work 9 -5 Mon - Fri this is not the job for you. Specially, the Deputy Editor is a key newsroom leader who can help our reporters with enterprise and investigative projects while keeping up with important issues as they play out on a day-to-day basis in Hawaii. This requires a veteran journalist, newsroom management experience preferred, who can demonstrate their own track record with watchdog and public affairs reporting. You should be able to lead by example, be comfortable with writing regularly and enjoy pitching in on projects. Beyond the hands-on editing, we are looking for someone who embraces the notion that a vibrant news organization is vital to democracy and that we can make a difference in the lives of people and the public policy through solid, smart journalism.
