Description: The Hays (Kan.) Daily News, the state's top mid-sized daily newspaper two of the past three years, is seeking a talented and hard-working photojournalist to serve as our new PHOTO CHIEF. The photo chief will oversee one other full-time photographer, a handful of stringers and a part-time intern. We are looking for someone who is as comfortable setting up an environmental portrait as they are grabbing gear at a moment's notice to chase a twister. Besides the daily newspaper (Sunday through Friday), we have a growing portfolio of niche products, including three glossy magazines that allow images to shine. Video editing skills are a plus as our digital offerings are growing, as well. At the HDN, our reporters and photographers truly act as a team, and we are seeking a photo chief who will build upon that strong tradition. Competitive salary, stability, equipment allowance and top-notch benefits are on the table. Located in northwest Kansas, Hays is an exceptional community with award-winning schools, a state university, a vibrant arts community and a strong economy. There are few better places in the nation to start or to raise a family. The Hays Daily News is part of Harris Enterprises, a family-owned newspaper group with a Pulitzer under its belt and a legacy of excellence. This is not a stepping-stone position — it is a rare opportunity to be among the leaders of a newspaper family that believes our future is bright. Send resume and cover letter — by JAN. 11 — to managing editor Ron Fields, rfields@dailynews.net, for consideration. Portfolios will be requested at a later date.
